In 2003, in just a single month, founder Marc Edson and a dedicated troupe of volunteers remodeled, painted, laid flooring, and installed theater seats, all while rehearsing their first show Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. On October 1st, 2003 they opened to an appreciative full house!
Chico Theater Company is a labor of love for me. Because of the people. It is incredibly fulfilling to work with both the actor who has performed in theater all their lives, as well as the new person who is acting for the first time in their life.

For more than 22 years, Marc Edson guided Chico Theater Company with passion, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to live theater and the community. His extraordinary leadership helped shape CTC into the beloved theater it is today. As we celebrate that legacy, we are excited to welcome Owen Hansen as our new Executive Director and begin the next chapter of CTC’s story.
Owen brings 15 years of experience in theater, both onstage and behind the scenes, along with a deep commitment to the North State arts community. Throughout his career, he has performed, volunteered, and worked alongside passionate performers, dynamic directors, and dedicated arts supporters to create local, meaningful theater.
As Executive Director, Owen is looking not only to build upon CTC’s strong foundation, but also to strengthen connections throughout the performing arts community. He has been working with other community theaters to develop a greater network of collaboration, exchange, and artistic growth—creating more opportunities to support local artists and celebrate the performing arts.
